National Heritage Open Days 2022 9 – 18 September

Every September 100s of organisations and volunteers across the Dudley borough organise events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture.
It's your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are FREE to explore.
To celebrate National Heritage Open Day, Dudley Council is working with partners to throw open the doors of buildings across the borough and celebrate the theme of ‘Astounding Inventions’ between 9 and 18 September.

Dudley Town Centre
On 10 September you can visit the former Crown Public House and the Coroner’s Court, where the ‘growing up in Dudley’ project can be viewed.
In addition, there is a range of events happening throughout Dudley. At Top Church from 11am to 3pm, you can learn about the Harper and Bean families who built Bean Cars.
At Bottom Church from 11am to 2pm, you can participate in a guided tour. Also, St James’ Church located at Eve Hill is opening its doors from 10am to 3pm and finally Dudley Zoo and Castle is taking part on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 September.

Brierley Hill
Brierley Hill will be a hive of exciting activities, events and tours this month, as part of the national Heritage Open Day events.
Brierley Community Forum is working with Dudley Council and other partners to open interesting and historical buildings that might not typically be open to the public, with this year’s theme ‘Astounding Inventions’ being widely promoted.
In-person tours will be available at several buildings in the town as well as virtual and online tours with people able to find out more at www.brierleyhill.net and www.heritageopendays.org.uk/

Other locations
Other borough buildings opening their doors include the Church of St Augustine of Hippo Holly Hall, St John’s Church in Brockmoor, and St Peter’s Church in Cradley, Halesowen. In Stourbridge, the Quaker meeting house, and Stourbridge Glass Museum will also be open.

Virtual Tours
If you would prefer to visit without leaving the comfort of your home, then why not take a virtual tour of one of the twelve key heritage buildings within the town. Virtual tours including Former St Edmund’s School (now Dudley Mosque), Priory House, the former Dudley School of Art and Free Library, Dudley Town Hall, Coroner’s Court, Old Police Buildings, Memorial Tower and the former Brooke Robinson Museum, Crown Public House, Old Police Station and three churches will all be available.
