A Successful Spring
Spring saw the community come together through our ‘Collect Cans & Get Cash’ for ECO (Edlington Community Organisation).
Aluminium cans were collected and weighed in throughout the month of May as part of Doncaster’s ‘Great British Spring Clean’ and residents collected an impressive 134kg of aluminium cans, raising £134 to help fund a community skip in July!
The project continues, so if you would like to get involved please drop your cans off at ECO, (Yorkshire Main Community Centre, DN12 1AB) and help turn everyday recycling into real impact!
Heading into Summer: Edlington in Bloom Sunflower Project
Children, families and community groups across Edlington are coming together to take part in the exciting Edlington in Bloom Sunflower Project.
Every primary aged pupil has been given the opportunity to grow their own sunflower, with pots, compost and seeds provided to get them started.
The project is already bringing communities together, as children learn how to plant, nurture and care for their sunflowers, gaining valuable hands-on experience of the natural growing cycle and the importance of supporting local wildlife.
Led in partnership with Growing Together, the initiative not only promotes environmental awareness but also encourages creativity, wellbeing and community spirit. Children will even be able to harvest and reuse their seed, either replanting next year or turning them into bird food and helping to create a lasting legacy.
Looking ahead...
In Autumn, Sew Mindful Crafts will lead a meaningful community project in support of Remembrance, bringing people together through creativity. Then in Winter, Helping Hands will host community sessions to make seasonal wreaths, adding a warm and welcoming touch to homes across Edlington. Together, these activities highlight how the community continues to connect, create, and make a positive difference all year round.
Edlington is set to get a colourful new look, thanks to the creativity of its young residents. Ward councillors have funded an exciting litter bin sticker campaign, developed in partnership with the Neighbourhood Team and all three primary schools in the area.
Pupils were invited to design eye-catching, educational posters encouraging people to use litter bins responsibly and tackle dog fouling. The response was fantastic, with a range of thoughtful and imaginative designs submitted. A judging panel has now selected the winning entries, which will soon be printed and displayed on litter bins across Edlington.
Keep an eye on the YourLifeEdlington page, where the winning designs will be revealed soon!
