City of Doncaster Council is hiring and we want to hear from you!
We currently have over 60 vacancies across our site this month, in a range of different roles throughout the city, so there really is something for everyone.
Make a difference, work for your Local Council!
Councils have changed, with more routes in than ever before; find your own path to a life-changing career and develop the skills you need to make it happen. City of Doncaster Council provides many early career opportunities, from apprenticeships and work experience/volunteering opportunities to graduate placement schemes.
Hear from Ryan, a recent City of Doncaster Council apprentice, on his experience:
"I used to think apprenticeships we're only for school leavers or graduates, but after completing my apprenticeship in software testing, I wish I'd taken the plunge sooner. No matter your age, it's never too late to start an apprenticeship and begin a new career doing something you're passionate about. I was 26 when I started my journey as an apprentice at the City of Doncaster Council.
Through the fantastic work environment and flexible working options, I've been able to develop a career that fits my life - not the other way around.
If there's one thing I've learned, it's this: take the plunge, follow your interests, and kickstart your career through an apprenticeship."

This Month's Vacancies
We’re looking for enthusiastic apprentices to join our Digital Testing Team. You’ll help test new and existing digital systems to make sure they work well for our customers. This includes checking software across different systems, finding ways to improve, and supporting Doncaster’s digital transformation.
A software tester is someone who checks that computer programmes and applications work properly before they are released. Here’s what they do in simple terms:
-
Find problems: They look for bugs or errors in the software that could cause it to behave incorrectly.
-
Test features: They make sure all parts of the software do what they’re supposed to do.
-
Report issues: If something doesn’t work, they write it down clearly so developers can fix it.
-
Think like a user: They try to use the software the way real people would, to see if it’s easy and reliable.
-
Check improvements: After fixes are made, they test again to confirm everything works.
In short, a software tester helps make sure the software is high quality, safe, and ready for people to use.
Recent apprentice Ryan explains what it’s like to work within this specific team:
"I began my journey as an apprentice technology tester back in July 2023 and have since progressed into a fully fledged Quality Assurance & Testing Officer within the same team at the City of Doncaster Council. The balance of learning through training sessions and applying that knowledge in the workplace created the perfect environment to thrive and excel.
Your colleagues and managers are there to support you every step of the way and genuinely want you to succeed. If you have an interest in the sector, are willing to work hard, and have a desire to succeed, this apprenticeship is the perfect opportunity to grow - both as a tester and as an individual."
