Preparing for winter

Top tips on preparing for Winter!

As we all know, temperatures are starting to drop and it feels Winter has arrived! Here are some of our top tips for keeping yourself and others around you warm and well this winter:

  • Winter vaccinations like the flu jab and Covid-19 are a great way to protect against nasty illnesses during the colder months
  • Help to keep the heat in your home by closing doors and using draft excluders or move furniture away from radiators to let heat circulate
  • Have medication in the house for coughs and colds, these can be bought from supermarkets or pharmacies
  • Check in with neighbours around you, a simple hello or ask if they need any essentials can make a big difference
  • Choose the right NHS service for your illness or injury, this way you will be seen quicker by the correct professional

Gritting and Highways

With colder temperatures and a sprinkling of snow in Doncaster, it’s safe to say that winter is now upon us.

Rest assured that we are well-prepared for this situation and that our teams have been out gritting the roads since the beginning of this week. To ensure that we can keep everyone safe and moving, we are stocked with approximately 6,000 tonnes of rock salt, 190 grit bins, and a fleet of 13 gritting vehicles.

While we are on top of the situation, please do take extra precautions when traveling during these colder months and when we are experiencing freezing conditions of this kind. Remember to leave extra time for your journeys, to defrost your car, and to always drive carefully.
