Name of Doncaster's new railway training centre revealed after public vote
Network Rail have announced that Doncaster’s new railway training centre will be named The Gresley Institute – following a public vote, held in partnership with City of Doncaster Council, which attracted over 3,500 responses.
The three-storey building on Carolina Way near Lakeside is being brought back into use by Network Rail.
Formerly home to the National College for High Speed Rail, the building has been transformed into a modern centre for operational training, education and development.
The first training delegates began their learning on 6 October – and the centre will eventually train up to 1,000 rail industry colleagues each year.
Further investment in Doncaster Leisure facilities unveiled
New leisure and culture plans for Doncaster which include the construction of a new leisure facility in Edlington – will be presented to cabinet at a key decision-making meeting next week.
The full proposals include significant refurbishments for Doncaster Dome and a brand-new leisure facility for Edlington (replacing the existing Edlington Leisure Centre), as well as further investment into Adwick and Dearne Valley Leisure Centres with support from funding from Sport England.
The works are part of the City of Doncaster Council’s ongoing capital investment across all leisure facilities which has seen over £35m invested over the past five years.
City of Doncaster Council’s (CDC) Cabinet, which meets next week (November 5), is also being asked to support the funding requirements needed to progress Doncaster Sheffield airport’s full reopening as well as an overview of the airport’s reopening journey to date including the financial support secured from South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and the Government.
Halloween recycling: Tips and Tricks on What Goes Where!
Knowing how to get rid of all that Halloween waste can be a bit scary – but we’ve put a handy list below to help you stay on top of your Autumn recycling!
-
Pumpkins – fantastic for the compost heap or used to make new recipes such as Pumpkin soups. If you’d rather get rid, pop them in your black bin or take them to your local HWRC.
-
Halloween costumes – why not keep them for another year and use them again? If not, they can be donated at a charity shop, clothing bank or local HWRC.
-
Halloween décor – this might also be useful to bag away and reuse another year. Alternatively, just like the costumes, the décor can be donated to a charity shop.
-
Batteries – any spare batteries, cables or electronics must be returned to the shop they came from or taken to a local HWRC to be recycled separately. Batteries must never be put in the household bin as they can easily catch fire.
