Doncaster City Centre Gets Tidied As Part of Dedicated Day of Action
Keeping our city centre looking its best is a top priority for the council and our cleaning specialists sweep the area each and every day (both figuratively and literally) to ensure that it always makes a great impression.
While this is a big focus for us all-year round, our teams did come out in full force for a big collaborative day of action last week to intensify their efforts. If you were out and about at the time, you may have seen our waste and recycling specialists busy clearing up detritus, our graffiti removal professionals doing a thorough wipe down of the area, and our state-of-the-art scrub deck sweeper giving the footpaths a deep clean everywhere it went.
Complementing our daily cleaning routine, this day of action was part of an ongoing commitment to make sure that our city centre — and, indeed, the rest of Doncaster — is a neat, tidy and well-looked after environment that all visitors can enjoy.
You can help us keep it that way, and do your bit to look after the community, by always putting your rubbish in the bin.
Town Field and Elmfield Park Recognised At Green Flag Ceremonies
Earlier this summer, we were delighted to announce that eight of Doncaster’s parks had earned Green Flag status for 2025/26, including the city centre's Town Fields and Elmfield Park.
Recognising the cleanest, safest, best maintained, and overall most welcoming outdoor spaces from all over the globe, we are incredibly proud to have earned this prestigious honour yet again.
Over the past few days, we have been celebrating each of our award-winning parks, as well as the amazing teams and community groups who look after them, with special on-location ceremonies.
Check out how beautiful these wonderful spaces are in the new pics!
Waterfront update
Earlier this month, teams working to remediate the site at the Waterfront discovered a sunken boat (see below) whilst working at the site!
The boat was discovered as part of the ongoing project to clean up the old site and turn it into a space fit for future development.
Financed by both Central Government and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), it is hoped the space will create the possibilities for future investment, which will provide new leisure, retail, civic as well as other uses.
Work to complete phase one of the project began in January 2025.
Summer Safety
If you visited Doncaster city centre over the Summer, you will have noticed a visible surge in the work being done to keep those living and visiting the city centre safe.
Among other things, activities included:
- Weekly pop-up stalls
- Special days of action cracking down on anti-social behaviour
- Delivering crime prevention advice to local retailers and residents
- Using the city centre Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to enforce against repeat offenders.
- Supporting major events such as DNOne and St Leger
- Specific days of action to clean up/maintain city centre cleanliness.

Children and Young People Provided Access to Safe Spaces in Doncaster City Centre
Children and young people who find themselves in situations where they need support will now be able to get that assistance at 11 different stores across Doncaster city centre.
Devised by the council's Young Advisors, the Child Friendly Safe Space initiative encourages local retailers and restaurants to put young people first and, in the process, to create a safer, kinder city. The stores have all received special training enabling them to provide this support and, if a young person does need aid, staff will do everything in their power to help them until the appropriate services can take over.
Stickers are displayed at each of the venues in question, indicating that they are indeed safe spaces for children and young people in the city centre. The following stores are part of the scheme: Costa Coffee; Dazzle; Flip Out; Frenchgate Centre customer services; Primark; River Island; Select; Subway; ToyLand; Victoria Cross Trust; and the EPIC Hub.
Cllr. Sue Farmer, Cabinet Member for children, young people and families, said: “I take great pride in Doncaster Council’s Young Advisors for creating the Safe Space initiative. This program ensures that children and young people feel secure, knowing they have a safe place to turn to if they ever feel scared, anxious, or unsafe while in the city centre. Our goal is to foster independence among our children and young people and having that supportive presence can make a significant difference. I would like to extend my thanks to the retailers who have already joined us and hope to see even more participate.”
