Volunteer at your local library!

This week is Volunteers' Week where we recognise the important role volunteers play and the difference they make in our communities, while inspiring others to take on new volunteering roles too.

In Doncaster we are very fortunate to have over 400 volunteers who help out in our community libraries. These libraries would not be able to open without the dedicated contribution of local people giving their time.

At Tickhill Community Library, the volunteers regularly hold wonderful literary quizzes, coffee mornings, trips to fashion shows and days out to Harrogate Book Festival.

If you want to consider volunteering at your local community library, find out more here:

Tackle Plastic on our Playing Fields

Make a pledge to tackle plastic on our playing fields and be in with a chance of winning team-branded water bottles for your club!

We’re calling on sports clubs, teams, players, supporters and venues to help reduce the use of single-use plastic on and around our playing fields.

You can get involved by pledging, for example, to:

  • Host a zero-plastic day and highlight alternatives to plastic bottles, wrappers and packets.
  • Identify your nearest venue where bottles/cups can be refilled with water for free, or provide and promote your own water refill opportunity where possible
  • Commit to stop selling plastic bottled drinks and plastic wrapped food at your venue
  • Introduce a reusable cups deposit and return policy for hot and/or cold drinks sold on site
  • Organise a litter pick after a match/event and complete a litter survey to find out how much plastic is being dropped.

To tell us about your activity, and for a chance to win team-branded water bottles for your club, please complete our registration form

South Yorkshire Landlord Forum

There's still time to book a place on the South Yorkshire Landlord Forum - a free event organised by SYMCA (South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority) and the National Residential Landlords Association.

Open to all landlords with properties in Doncaster, as well as in Barnsley, Rotherham and Sheffield, this forum is a valuable opportunity to network with fellow landlords, meet Local Authorities and service providers, and stay ahead of upcoming regulatory changes.

The forum will take place in the Tony Currie Suite at Sheffield United Football Club, between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday 12 June.

Next Week: Carers Week in Doncaster

Next week marks national Carers Week, which is an opportunity to think about caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities across Doncaster and throughout the UK.

Every day next week, from Monday to Friday 10am – 4pm, the Carers Service and other local organisations will be available to offer advice and support in the One Stop Shop in the Ground Floor of the Civic Offices situated in Nigel Gresley Square. Everyone is welcome, especially those who think they may be a carer and have not been able to access support before.
