Celebrate being women...safely

In celebration of International Women’s Day, ladies from the Violence Against Women & Girls group are hosting an event at Bone Idle Lounge, Silver Street, Doncaster, DN1 1HT.

The theme of the event  this Saturday (March 8) at 2pm, is: "women can go out and just celebrate being women...safely". All monies raised on the day are going directly to Phoenix Women’s Aid.

Following the event, attendees are invited to The Queen Crafthouse to continue celebrations where there will be a comedienne, quiz, live music with an exclusive all female line-up.

The Safe Haven Initiative will also operate on the night, from 7-11pm from Doncaster Unitarian Church, 60 Hall Gate, Doncaster, DN1 3PB. The Safe Haven is a partnership between Doncaster City Council Public Health and a number of key partners to provide a pastoral approach to reducing vulnerabilities in the City Centre proving phone charge facility, hot drinks with the emphasis on reducing violence against women and girls. The volunteers wear hi-vis vests for increased visibility and the location of the Safe Haven is clearly highlighted with flags and banners on Hallgate.

And finally…in case you missed it …

Did you know City of Doncaster Council is the first authority in South Yorkshire to sign the Menopause Workplace Pledge, reinforcing our commitment to being a menopause-positive employer and supporting women’s wellbeing at work.

The Menopause Network is going from from strength to strength and will be attending and presenting at a Team Doncaster International Women’s Day event. The group have regular coffee mornings based in a council building and give staff and manager’s the opportunity to drop in for a natter, a cuppa, for information or for company.

Here’s what they’ve pledged to do:

• Recognise that the menopause can impact the workplace and that women need support.
• Foster open, positive, and respectful conversations about menopause.
• Actively support and inform employees affected by menopause.

This milestone has been made possible thanks to our partnership with Sojourn Doncaster, who provide vital support for menopausal women in our community.
