Lunchtime Spotlights: Changing the Record Project

Join our curators for free lunchtime spotlight talks exploring some of the amazing objects in our collection. Find out more about ground-breaking new research being undertaken by volunteer researchers into the history of Doncaster.

Curator Talk: A Country House at War
Saturday 21 September, 2–3pm
During the First World War, Hooton Pagnell Hall in Doncaster was transformed into a bustling hospital for wounded soldiers. Under the watchful eye of Commandant and house owner Julia Warde-Aldam, more than 1000 soldiers passed through its doors. Discover the amazing true stories of the soldiers, nurses and Warde-Aldam family whose lives were turned upside down by the war.

Military Art Club
Saturday 14 September, 10.30am - 12.30pm
Join us for a FREE family art club with local artist Mandy Keating. These sessions are open to serving military personnel, veterans, cadets and their families and anyone with an interest in military history. Children of all ages are welcome.
Have a go at a range of artistic techniques and styles and create art inspired by Doncaster’s military history. Selected artworks will be displayed at the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum in 2025.

The Sheardown Collection Talk

This illustrated talk shows a selection of images from the Sheardown Collection, which illustrate the appearance of Doncaster between the late 1700s and early 1800s, when it was changing from a medieval town to a fashionable Georgian town.
