Water Voles Return to the area following 3 years in Devon

A group of 30 water voles has been released back into a newly created habitat with help of local Stainforth residents at Unity, following a successful conservation exercise spanning the last 3 years.

Back in 2021 a small population of water voles was discovered in the network of drains within the Unity Connect zone. The entire population of 12 water voles were caught by trained ecologists and were transported to a specialist facility in Devon.

During their stay in Devon, a new habitat was created at Unity, specifically to increase the habitat quality and the area available for the water voles.

The new habitat has capacity to support 60 water voles and the population is expected to considerably expand throughout the summer of 2024.

Members of Shaping Stainforth were on hand to support with the release last month.

Reporting Fly-tipping/Anti-social behaviour in Your Area

We know how important it is for you to feel safe and content living in Your Area, but incidents such as fly-tipping or anti-social behaviour can make that feel difficult at times.

Reporting Fly-Tipping

Dumped waste can often be contaminated. Not only is it harmful to the environment, water course and wildlife but it encourages vermin and, in time, can corrode or become unstable and emit toxic fumes which affect health and safety.

The money spent on clearing up illegally dumped waste could be better spent on other services.

You can report any Fly-tipping incidents here:

Report Fly-Tipping

The Street Scene team will clear waste illegally dumped on public land for which it has responsibility within 7 working days.

We will work with private land owners to ensure any dumped materials are safely removed.

Reporting Anti-Social Behaviour

A number of actions are classed as anti-social behaviour, including:

  • excessive residential noise (from music, parties and so on)
  • harassment
  • improper use of vehicles (for example, annoying use of motorcycles close to residential premises, riding bicycles on pavements, regular repair of vehicles, abandoned vehicles)
  • inappropriate use of fireworks
  • inappropriate use of space for leisure/play (examples are playing ball games close to property; littering; graffiti; fly-tipping; allowing dog fouling; damage/vandalism to public and private property)
  • inconsiderate or improper parking
  • rowdy behaviour
  • street drinking;
  • threatening/intimidating behaviour
  • use of foul and abusive language

You can report any of these happening in your area below:
