'Good' news for AFCL service
Our Adult, Family and Community Learning (AFCL) service has been recognised as Good by Ofsted!
The Doncaster Adult, Family and Community Learning team run funded courses at the heart of our communities, with everything from Maths and English to family and community courses.
Following an inspection in December, the service are thrilled to have retained their ‘Good’ rating.
Choose kindness for yourself and others in 2024
As we come to the end of January, many of you might still be looking to try something new - whether it’s a sports club, getting out in nature more or volunteering in the community such as taking part in litter picks and spring cleans in your local area.
Your time and care can make a positive difference in the life of a child or young person living in care in Doncaster. Sparing just a couple of hours a month, you could befriend a child in care by becoming a Buddy - taking the child out to enjoy activities such as playing football, going to the local museum or bowling.
And if you have more time to give, why not think about sharing your home and becoming a Foster Carer. By just being there for a child, offering them stability, love and care – you can help shape their future.
This year, see how you can #ChooseKindness for yourself and others. Watch the video below...

Holocaust Memorial Day
Each year, on 27 January, everyone is asked to remember the six million Jews from the Holocaust, and the millions of people who were subject to Nazi Persecution, and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
In Doncaster, a service including prayers, readings and recitals took place today (Friday) at Danum Gallery, Library and Museum followed by wreath laying at the Memorial Stone in the grounds of the Archives on Chequer Road.
A book of remembrance is also available for people to sign.
At 8pm tomorrow (Saturday 27 January), the Mansion House, Cusworth Hall and DGLAM will be illuminated to join the country to remember the victims of the Holocaust as well as victims of other genocide around the world.
People are also asked to light a candle and place them in their windows on the day to remember.
Public Consultation
You may be aware the Government has launched a public consultation on the possible transfer of the powers of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
The Government’s Levelling Up White Paper published in 2022 outlined a commitment to enable mayors to take on public safety functions including police and prime commissioners, reiterating the key leadership role that combined authority Mayors have in public safety and improving public health.
If the order passes through Parliament, the role of Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire would be abolished in May 2024. This would mean a mayoral election would take place on the 2nd May 2024. People across South Yorkshire would have the opportunity to vote for the candidate they would like to elect for the integrated role of Mayor and Police Crime Commissioner.
