Porter’s Bridge brings new sustainable connections to Rossington

A new bridge in Rossington has been named in memory of Ian Porter, the last person to lose his life in an accident at the former Rossington Colliery.

Porter’s Bridge will provide a significant new transport link between iPort logistics hub and West End Lane.

A new road, Powerhouse Lane, is named to remind of the colliery itself and of a specific feature, a large building on the colliery surface providing electricity to the pit.

Up to eight bus services an hour will access iPort via Porter’s Bridge from January (more information below). Access for walking, wheeling and cycling between the two areas is improved by new segregated cycle and footways. General traffic is restricted from using the new link.

Rossington Recycling ‘pilot scheme’ introduced

All residents in Rossington should now have received written communication from City of Doncaster Council and waste contractors Suez.

The letter explains that putting non-recyclables in the blue bin is costing the council over £300,000 a year – money that could be better spent on essential community services such as adult social care and children’s services.

Only plastic bottles, clean paper and card, tins, or cans (including aerosol cans) and tin foil can go in the blue bin.

During the week commencing 5 February 2024, any blue bins that are found to contain items that can’t be recycled may still be emptied, but a tag identifying the offending material will be left to let residents know where they went wrong.

On the next collection cycle (week commencing 19 February 2024), blue bins containing non-recyclable waste will not be emptied, giving residents an opportunity to remove the contaminants.

Rossington Action Day

Yesterday, Wednesday 10 January, St Leger Homes held a Day of Action at Ragusa Drive in Rossington.

There were litter picks to help keep the area tidy and skips for residents to dispose of larger unwanted household items if they wished.

St Leger Homes also had a Cost of Living Hub where people can come for advice and support on dealing with food and energy costs, household bills, benefits and more. For more information on the support available, visit our webpage.

Thank you to all who got involved and helped us create a local area we are proud of.
