Hello there,
The City of Doncaster Archives is celebrating its 50th anniversary this November! We have planned a series of events that will give you a glimpse into the rich history of Doncaster.
Open days
We are opening our doors to the public on Monday 20 November and Friday 24 November. You can explore behind the scenes at City of Doncaster Archives and view fascinating archival documents from Doncaster’s rich history including charters dating back to the 1190s. No booking is needed to view exhibitions.
Behind the scenes tours will run at 10.15am, 12.30pm and 2.15pm on both open days. Places are limited and must be booked in advance.
Workshops
On Monday 27 November 2023, we are hosting two workshops that will help you delve deeper into history.
The first workshop, Reading History: A Palaeography Workshop, will be held from 10am – 12 noon. Archivist Charles Kelham will guide participants through the process to transcribe and read local 16th and 17th century documents.
Would you like to research your family history? The second workshop, Family History for Beginners Workshop, where you can find out how to trace your ancestors and use free resources will be held from 1pm – 4pm.
Both workshops are free but booking is required.
