- Flooding and mental health
Whilst the weather and situation has improved over the weekend, conditions caused by Storm Babet are still affecting areas across Doncaster. Some flood alerts and warnings issued by the Environment Agency remain in place meaning flooding is expected or possible and you need to be prepared. There is a new flood warning issued today for the River Idle at Bawtry Bridge A631, Bawtry.
There remains a number of roads across Doncaster which are closed due to flood waters too, the details of which can be found further down in this email, along with several that have reopened. Please do check these before you travel and be aware that there could be road diversions in place and hazards such as abandoned cars which can be very difficult to see at night.
There is further rain expected tomorrow so we are monitoring the situation and will provide the necessary updates.
Please don't drive through floodwater!
There are still some areas affected by floodwater, please do not attempt to drive or walk through it, it’s often deeper than you think. Please do not ignore road closure signs or barriers as they are there for your safety.
We have also seen some signs and barriers being removed which could endanger yourself and others, please do not remove them. In the last 24 hours there have been several people rescued by the emergency services from cars driven into flood water. We have also had reports of vehicles abandoned in flooded areas which could be a hazard as the night draws in.
Our Teams and partners continue to work on the Ground
Along with our partners, our teams are continuing their on-the-ground support and have been working round the clock to monitor the situation and provide assistance and reassurance to residents across Doncaster.
In the last 24 hours we have been around the city supporting communities including Fishlake, Sprotbrough and Bawtry. Pumps are also in place in priority areas across Doncaster to help lower water levels.
A huge thank you to those who have supported and continue to support us and our emergency service colleagues at this time.
