  A second UTC for Doncaster
In August, the British UK government announced that Doncaster has been successful in its bid for a second University Technical College (UTC), with a focus on Health and Care, and Green Technology.
This will support and link with our existing Doncaster UTC within our Civic & Cultural Quarter and provide incredible opportunities for Doncaster young people. It has been a joint bid by many local partners and acts as a good example of what we can do when we work together for the benefit of Doncaster.
Thank you for keeping your city clean
City of Doncaster Council’s clean up teams have been busy using new cleaning equipment in the city centre including new “scrubdeck” sweepers (above) which recycle the water used to cleanse ensuring less wastage and greater efficiency. Capable of speeds of up to 40mph, they will be used across the city over the coming weeks and months.
The city centre pavements have also been blitzed as we look to remove unsightly chewing gum from the streets. A £22,850 grant from Keep Britain Tidy means high powered jets are out at night to clean up the debris. The state-of-the-art gum cleaning equipment helped rid the city streets of chewing gum. We’d also like businesses to encourage customers to stop dropping chewing gum and litter. Please dispose of it or take it home rather than leaving waste in bags next to street bins. If you need to arrange trade waste collections you can do so here:
Tackling ASB; You Said, We Did!
- We responded to local concerns which related to the previously unoccupied Staveley’s paint shop building on West Laith Gate, where a rear car park had become abandoned and presented a negative image to the public using the Multi Storey Car park entrance from St Sepulchre Gate. We contacted the owner of the premises whose plans to redevelop the site have been brought forward, leading to temporary fencing being installed to secure the site and the car park at the rear. The building is now undergoing major refurbishment and will become an asset to the City Centre. Reports of discarded waste and anti-social behaviour in the area have dramatically reduced as a result.
- Also in this area, concerns were raised by local businesses about instances of anti-social behaviour caused by groups sitting down and congregating on concrete planters near to the Miners Statue. We worked with our Highways Department and Quality Streets contractors to remove these and they have been replaced with paving to replicate the existing surroundings. We will continue to monitor the area, but since undertaking the changes there has been a reduction in calls from local businesses.
Report It to Sort It!
If you are a business or a resident in the city centre and you have been the victim of crime or anti-social behaviour, it’s really important that you report it. Please contact the council via 01302 736000 or ring South Yorkshire Police on 101.
 We welcome your feedback
We are always here to listen to your concerns, whether you are a resident or a business owner. The Council and partners value your feedback and will work to act upon it.
