Mexborough Knights Youngsters Keep Their Community Tidy with Litter Pick

Some of young athletes led the way recently in promoting pride in our local area with a community litter pick. Young people from Mexborough Knights JFC volunteered for the litter pick and cleared 20 bags of rubbish over the early May Bank Holiday.

The kids, along with their grown-ups and representatives from Mexborough Neighbourhood Network carried our the litter pick around the Manvers Road side of Manvers Park in a fantastic team effort.

Huge thank you and well done to them!

If you would like more information or guidance around running your own community litter pick, contact: communications@doncaster.gov.uk

Remake Learning Festival hits Mexborough!

We celebrated a fantastic and successful first Doncaster Remake Learning Days Festival over May half term, with 226 learning events taking place right across the city in 21 different wards. The festival was all about bringing free and low cost, all-age activities and events that would help people to inspire curiosity and passion, develop new interests and career options and discover something new! 80 event hosts came together to offer the events, with THOUSANDS of people, families and children joining us over the ten days.

There were plenty of events for all ages in Mexborogh, including Planet Fun with Lab Rascal's planetarium shows, The University of Sheffield hosted a craft session focusing on the aerospace industry, testing out engineering skills with the fun hands-on activities, workshop sessions with local YouTuber Daniel Debenham & TX1 Radio joined to provide music for the day!

Keep an eye out for more family-friendly events taking place during the summer holidays!

Mexborough Library has a new mural!

Ed Miliband MP recently unveiled the brand new mural at Mexborough Library!

Windhill Primary School, New Pastures Primary Lower School, Mexborough St John the Baptist C of E Primary, Montagu Junior School, Mexborough Highwoods Academy School, and The Laurel Academy participated in the creation of the mural, working with local illustrator Phil Sheppards from Doncaster Stories. Children provided quotes about the importance of reading like this one from Amy, 12: "Reading helps spark my imagination".

Some of Mexborough’s most memorable landmarks like the Old Grammar School and Mexborough Business Centre take centre stage as part of the mural. Ed Miliband cut the ribbon at the launch event. Also, Mexborough First Councillors Sean Gibbons, Bev Chapman, and Tommy Joyce were present.

Visit the library to see the mural and take advantage of this wonderful local community asset.

Check out the Locality Plan for Mexborough and the Wider South Area!

Did you know that each area of Doncaster has its own Locality Plan?

The plans are all about identifying the great strengths and assets of each area, and looking at where they can improve

In collaboration with local residents, communities, businesses and organisations, we have been delivering last year’s plan and wanted to highlight some of the great achievements that came out of this, as well as sharing the areas you told us you wanted us to focus on to improve your community, as part of this year’s plan.

Check out your community’s Locality Plan and learn more about what is happening in your area by visiting: www.yourlifedoncaster.co.uk/south-locality-plans

South Locality Plan one-pagerMex DividerSpotlight On

Each edition of this newsletter, we want to shine a vibrant spotlight on our community groups who continuously inspire us with their remarkable achievements and contributions to our local area.

Our community groups have a unique blend of passion, perseverance, and a burning desire to make a difference. Through their triumphs and challenges, they ignite our imaginations and remind us of the boundless potential within each of us.

In this section, we will celebrate individual groups and their volunteers, highlighting what they do, where they are and when you can access them, whether that’s craft groups, to food banks. We want to honour our local heroes and showcase the humans behind the organisations.

Each month, we want to feature a new community group and we need your help – nominate a community group or volunteer that you think deserves the spotlight and a collective thank you by emailing: mexcommunityhub@gmail.com
