Doncaster raises the Commonwealth Flag of Peace
On Monday 13th March, Doncaster marked Commonwealth Day by raising the Commonwealth Flag of Peace in Sir Nigel Gresley Square.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Commonwealth Charter by the late Queen Elizabeth II. The Charter sets out the values and aspirations that unite the Commonwealth’s 56 independent countries in Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Pacific, and the 2.5 billion people who live there.
The Flag for Peace symbolises the shared values and principles of the Commonwealth, including co-operation in economic and social development, diversity, respect, friendship and the promotion of peace around the world.
Doncaster selected as Levelling Up Partner
Doncaster has been selected as a Levelling Up Partner and has been earmarked for increased funding and Government support.
The city has been named in a Levelling up Partnerships programme across England which involves decision making on regeneration in the place at local and national government level. The city is set to benefit from funding between £8 - £20 million as part of the initiative – details of where and when and how much and on what projects are yet to be determined.
