Newton Stewart Activity and Resource Centre Celebrates 40 Years
On Friday 25 April Newton Stewart Activity and Resource Centre (ARC) marked its 40th anniversary with an event to celebrate the long-standing commitment of service users, their families and ARC staff members.
The event was opened by service users John Kirkpatrick and Stuart McHarg, before Beth Bleasdale, Team Manager, outlined some of the history and achievements of the ARC over the years, describing the ARC as a 'trailblazer' from the outset. The event also featured the distribution of certificates in recognition of skills, achievements and long service, and a musical sign-along from service users.
Two staff members, Rosalind Thomson, bus escort and David Hannah, bus driver, were presented with long-service awards for their incredible commitment to supporting service users to travel over the years. Travelling often on remote roads and long journeys, Rosalind and David work to ensure service users are safe, comfortable and are administered with rescue medication when needed.
Service users also received long service awards, with Stuart McHarg, Rosemarie Lenaghan and Mark Conlan gaining recognition for having attended the ARC since it opened in 1985.
Litter Strategy for Dumfries and Galloway
Dumfries and Galloway Council would like to understand your views on litter prevention and litter reduction across the region to inform the future Dumfries and Galloway Litter Prevention Strategy and Litter Reduction Action Plan.
This will ensure that all stakeholders’ views are appropriately considered in local and national context, and we become a litter free region within a circular economy that can reduce, recycle and reuse unwanted materials.
In line with the national Litter and Flytipping Strategy, our council seeks to reduce litter and fly-tipping, allowing us to:
- Value and enjoy our built and natural environment and protect and enhance it for future generations.
- Reduce the local and global environmental impact of our consumption and production.
- Ensure our public services are high quality, continually improving, efficient, and responsive to local people’s needs.
- Live in well-designed, sustainable places where we can access the amenities and services we need.
Online discussion sessions will be held for all council regions.
- Annandale and Eskdale – Monday 12 May, 6.30pm to 7.30pm
- Nithsdale – Wednesday 14 May, 6.30pm to 7.30pm
- Stewartry – Monday 19 May, 6.30pm to 7.30pm
