Get help with remote education

As the new national restrictions guidance released last week made clear, the government is continuing to prioritise the long term future of children and young people and will not be closing early years settings, schools, further education colleges, or universities.

Pupils can be absent for a range of reasons, including illnesses other than COVID-19, so remote education is a vital support to school work. We have worked with sector leaders to publish a package of resources designed to support your remote education planning and delivery. You can access all of these resources from this dedicated page on GOV.UK.

Remote education support for further education

There is additional support available to FE staff, including:

peer-to-peer advice and training through the EdTech Demonstrator programme including intensive 1:1 support, live webinars and tutorials, and a library of resources to ensure you are making the best use of technology (including devices and digital platforms).
the autumn term guidance to support FE leaders in developing their remote education contingency plans
support in using educational technology and developing online teaching skills from the Education and Training Foundation.
digital curriculum content and resources from organisations funded by the Department of Education (DfE) including Jisc and World Skills UK.
guidance on how FE providers can use the 16 to 19 Bursary Fund and the adult education budget to help students overcome financial barriers to participation in remote education.

Hosting ITT trainees can help ease the load

We know hosting ITT trainees can feel like an additional challenge for schools right now. However, ITT trainees are critical workers and have the potential to play a significant role to ease the load this year.

For example, trainees can, with the usual mentor oversight, take responsibility for small groups of pupils, create online learning materials, re-plan lesson sequences or deliver catch-up lessons.

Placements can be more flexible than ever this year, so there is scope to agree an arrangement that suits your school.
