Devon’s first water quality summit will be held after councillors backed plans this week to bring together industry experts and concerned community groups.

An action plan to help safeguard communities from flooding has been approved by our Cabinet. The Flood Risk Management Action Plan for 2026/27 commits more than £2.7 million to help protect communities and follows a winter in which dozens of homes across the county were flooded. Read more.
A new community car club is being launched in Devon, providing people with access to a car without the cost and responsibility of owning one. We are working with a national community car club provider, Co Wheels, to introduce the scheme, initially in Exeter. Read more.
Proposals to improve short breaks support for disabled children and young people have been agreed. The new approach will mean more local activities that are open to more families, with extra support available when it’s needed. Read more.
A new woodland has been planted at Stover Country Park as part of the Restoring Stover Park project, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The three-year project was recently completed, having restored historic features, improved Stover Lake, upgraded paths and trails, and delivered new and improved facilities. Read more.
Councillors have approved a proposal to construct the Mosshayne to Cranbrook section of the Exeter to Cranbrook cycle route. This section will complete a missing link between Exeter and Cranbrook, providing a safer and more attractive route away from busy roads. Read more.
Around 90 new zero emission buses are to be delivered with £7.53 million of funding awarded to Devon County Council. The new fleet of zero emission buses will benefit thousands of passengers across Devon. They will replace older diesel vehicles, cutting harmful emissions to improve air quality and improve journeys for people travelling for work, education and healthcare. Read more.

Fostering Devon is hosting an event on Friday 20 March to encourage more people to consider becoming foster carers. With 810 children currently in care in Devon, there is an urgent need for more safe and supportive homes.
Attendees will hear directly from experienced foster carers during an open questions and answers session, where they will share honest insight into the rewards and challenges of fostering. The event will also feature interactive workshops. Visit our website to book the event.
