SLS Spring term activities for The National Year of Reading 2026
March - World book day
World Book Day is on Thursday 5 March! This annual celebration is all about sharing the joy of reading. Schools and libraries will be buzzing with fun activities and SLS is no exception. Get your young people involved, enter our annual competition and try our new World Book Day quiz!
World book day competition
We are running our popular annual competition and this year the brief is 'design a t-shirt'. Follow our link below for full details. Get everyone involved and inspire a lifelong love of books and their characters. Prizes include printed t-shirts for the winning designs plus free books for your school library.
Our networking meetings are free of charge and are held either at our centre in Willand or at a host school. They are led by the SLS advisory team and are a source of up-to-date information, the sharing of ideas and good practice, plus a chance to look around another library and talk about the books we love!
Primary The next Primary meeting will take place during the Autumn term, however a library update will be published later this term, full of useful information with the focus on Families as reading partners.
Secondary Tuesday 17 March at The Spires College, Torquay or Wednesday 18 March at West Buckland School
With a long list of new titles scheduled for publication in March, we've carefully curated a selection of standout books that are likely to generate strong interest and high demand within your library.
Congratulations to Colyton Grammar School, winners of our recent competition to receive £200 worth of library books.
Thank you to every school that took part - your feedback will help us continue shaping the support we offer for reading and library development across Devon.
