February - Children's mental health week 2026
Children's Mental Health Week will take place the week commencing 9 February. The theme this year is "This is My Place", which aims to support children and young people in feeling a sense of belonging. Place2Be's Children's Mental Health Week.
This week is dedicated to raising awareness about children's mental health and the importance of creating supportive environments. We have sourced a list of useful books that can be added to your library (click 'National Year of Reading 2026' button below).
March - World book day competition
World Book Day is coming on Thursday 5 March! This annual celebration is all about sharing the joy of reading. Schools and libraries will be buzzing with fun activities and SLS is no exception.
We will be running our popular annual competition, this year the brief is 'design a t-shirt'. Follow our link below for full details. Get everyone involved and inspire a lifelong love of books and their characters. Prizes include printed t-shirts for the winning designs plus free books for your school library.

With 2026 a designated Year of Reading, plus, the Government announcement that all primary schools will have a library by 2029, we are interested in finding out more about school libraries in Devon.
