Teachers Rock® returned to the stunning Exeter Cathedral for two unforgettable evenings of inclusive music-making and inspirational singing last weekend. Led by founder Debbie Kent, Deputy Hub Lead for Devon Music Education Hub, the event brought together hundreds of young voices and musicians from Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, and SEND settings for a truly transformative experience.
The Cathedral Nave was filled with families, educators, and supporters, creating an atmosphere of warmth and joy. This annual project offers young people not only the thrill of performing in one of the region’s most iconic spaces but also meaningful opportunities for musical growth and wellbeing. Many pupils and staff spoke of newfound confidence, pride, and emotional connection through music.
Performances featured schools across Devon alongside Teachers Rock® choirs. Young musicians described the experience as “thrilling” and “amazing,” while teachers praised its impact on confidence, creativity, and mental health, calling it “a truly uplifting experience.”
These magical nights reaffirm Teachers Rock®’s commitment to nurturing creativity and musical excellence.
Join Teachers Rock® in 2026! Recruitment is now open for educators and young people to join upcoming choirs.
Devon Music Education Hub’s Annual Review 2024-25 is now live, providing an overview of our work with schools, partners, and communities during the past academic year. While this document highlights many key achievements, it represents only part of the work that we, and our partners, do to support music education for children and young people in Devon, Plymouth, and Torbay. We hope it gives you a sense of the breadth and impact of our activity and the partnerships that make this possible.
Join us on Wednesday 10 December at the Riviera International Centre, Torquay, for a joyful evening of music and celebration!
Enjoy performances from massed school choirs across Torbay, alongside ensembles including the Devon Youth Inspire Ensemble, Devon Youth Choir, Folk Ensemble, and Jazz Orchestra Ambassadors. Special guests Burnt Daylight, finalists in the 2025 Battle of the Bands, will also take the stage.
Proceeds from a bucket collection on the night will support Children’s Hospice South West, helping to make a real difference this Christmas.
Tickets: £10 (£8 concessions) + booking fee
n any Whole Class Ensemble Teaching (WCET) setting, there’s a strong chance at least one child faces physical challenges that make playing an instrument difficult—or even impossible. The OHMI Music-Makers programme is transforming this reality by providing adapted instruments and support, ensuring every child can participate meaningfully alongside their peers.
Join specialists Rachel Wolffsohn and Faye Oakley for practical training designed to give classroom teachers, Visiting Music Teachers, and support staff the tools and confidence to deliver inclusive WCET. Learn creative strategies, explore adaptive equipment, and discover how to make music accessible for all.
We’re offering the following training free of charge at the Future Skills Centre, Exeter, with the flexibility to join online for selected sessions:
🕐 Session 1: 1:00–2:00 pm (in person/online) 🕑 Session 2: 2:00–3:00 pm (in person) 🕓 Session 1 (repeat): 3:45–4:45 pm (in person/online)
Due to Arts Council England funding criteria for the pilot, this training is only available to teachers, education staff, and VMTs who work at least partially in the Devon or Torbay Local Authority areas.
Devon Music Education Hub and Young Sounds UK warmly invite you to our Visiting Music Teacher Forum for Spring 2026. Whether you’re an experienced VMT or just considering a career in music teaching, this is a fantastic opportunity to connect with colleagues, share good practice, and problem-solve together.
