Earlier this week Councillor Paul Arnott, our Cabinet Member for local government reorganisation (LGR) said that after extensive work by officers, and wide-ranging community engagement, it has become clear that a single unitary authority to replace the existing eight district councils and Devon County Council is the most logical option.

Our Health and Adult Care Scrutiny Committee this week urged the ambulance service to ‘think again’ on their plans to replace fire and rescue co-responders with trained volunteers.
The committee will now write to the board, Chair and Chief Executive of the Southwestern Ambulance Service Trust (SWASFT) asking them to reconsider the proposals.

The Baton of Hope is a charity event aimed at promoting better mental health across The Bay, raising awareness of the impact of suicide, and spreading a message of hope. The event, scheduled for Tuesday 30 September 2025, involves around 100 baton bearers participating in a relay walk across Torquay.
