Superlocrian is one of the UK’s most exciting emerging chamber ensembles. Based in the South West and fresh from a live broadcast on BBC Radio 3, the group recently released their critically acclaimed debut album. We were thrilled to collaborate with Superlocrian on Thursday 24 May for a dynamic day of music-making, which included inspirational performances for primary schools, jazz development workshops, and side-by-side performance experiences. Over 300 enthusiastic children and young people took part throughout the day at St Mary's Catholic Primary, Blackpool CofE Primary School, South Dartmoor Community College, and the South Dartmoor Primary Music Centre, supported by the Hub.
Sidmouth’s homegrown festival is back Saturday May 17 2025 in a new Sea Spot venue at Connaught Gardens. Renowned for its community spirit and welcoming atmosphere – all are welcome to our annual coastal celebration. As part of a packed line-up of family-friendly activities, you can catch not one but two of the finalists from this Devon Secondary Schools Battle of the Bands - Burnt Daylight from Queen Elizabeth's School, Crediton and The Revival from The King's School, Ottery St Mary - performing on the main stage.
The Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year Awards in partnership with the UK’s leading music exam board ABRSM recognises and rewards incredible music teachers.
Every year, Classic FM celebrates inspiring musical educators from across the nation who are making a real difference to the musical lives of young people. And now, nominations are open again for 2025 – with a sixth category added and a pot of £20,000 of musical equipment to be won thanks to Viking!
Teachers can be nominated into ONE of the following categories:
- Teachers of Primary School Age
- Teachers of Secondary/High School Age
- SEND Music Teachers
- Visiting Music Teachers
- Lifetime Achievement (NEW 2025 category)
- Best Music Learning Initiative
The six category winners in The Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year Awards will each receive a share from a pot of £20,000 of music equipment of their choice for their school, all thanks to Viking.

The National Youth Folk Ensemble is holding a FREE Open Day at Exeter Phoenix on Wednesday 28 May. To register for an Open Day you will need to:
- Be aged 12-18.
- Live in England.
- Be able to play confidently on your chosen instrument
Open Days are open to players of any instruments but not suitable for vocalists. No prior experience of folk music necessary. All playing and learning will be done by ear – no need to read notation. They are free to attend, but you need to book in advance. If the cost of travelling would be a barrier to you attending, please contact us as we have travel bursaries available.
