The latest information about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Devon

Education Key Worker Team - Update

As we start the Summer Term, the Education Key Workers aim to support as many children already referred to us as possible for the rest of this academic year. Therefore, the team will no longer be accepting any new referrals after Friday, 9th May. All referrals received before this date will be reviewed through the current panel system as usual.

We understand this may be disappointing, but it allows us to focus on children already waiting for our intervention, especially those nearing transition stages.

Please continue to use other resources and support options, such as the below, for children you might have referred to the Education Key Worker Team:

• OAIP and Targeted OAIP: use Devon’s OAIP and targeted provision framework - Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision and Devon’s Ordinarily Available Targeted Support Framework.
• Stepped Support Plans: use assess, plan, do, review approach for support plans that use small steps towards progress.
• Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) Training: utilise the ‘Supporting School Attendance: Understanding EBSA’ training resources including the ATTEND Framework - an introduction to the ATTEND Framework and School’s Wellbeing cards
• DCC Website Resources: access EBSA advice and guidance from DCC website. 
• Parent Resources: provide parents with EBSA resources from DCC website. 
• Early Help: ensure Early Help interventions are in place.
• Collaborative Work: work with other professionals, the families, and children to ensure support is in place and relationships are maintained.
• Relational Approach: use a relational approach with the child and in communications with families - guidance for developing relational practice and policy.
• SEND Consultations: attend SEND support consultations or North Devon SEND and Inclusion Drop-ins.
• Multi-agency Referrals: involvement of other professionals to help develop a  better understanding of the child’s needs that may be impacting upon their school attendance.
