On Track is a brand-new music industry day designed to help you take the next step in your career. Hosted by Music In Devon Initiative (MIDI) in partnership with Devon Music Education Hub, this full-day event brings together industry experts, artists, and organisations to offer insights, advice, and opportunities across live and recorded music.

We had a great day at our Music for Youth Local Festival at Coombeshead Academy in Newton Abbot. Our MFY Music Mentors Matt Harrison and Andy Grappy were treated to fantastic performances from Coombeshead Academy Folk Band, Devon Youth Chamber Brass, Ivybridge Community College Senior Orchestra and Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra (DYJO 1 and 2), as well as Hunger Strike (Plympton Academy), Drawer Full o'Lemons (MIDI), Riff'd (Jamming Station), Citrus Bliss (Jamming Station), Drift (Coombeshead Academy) and The Revival (The King's School). Huge thanks to Coombeshead Academy for hosting this event.

Early Years Music for Speech and Language Development

Early Years Music: Using signs and symbols to support early communication during adult-led music sessions
Communication practitioner and regional Makaton tutor Susie Nowell-Kelley explores hello and goodbye songs , musical play games, songs around emotions, colours and animals as well as seasonal songs. During this session you will learn and explore how to use, up to 40 key word signs and symbols to support songs and musical play that will promote the development of children’s early expression and comprehension of language.

Imagine taking your seat in this cutting-edge orchestra, performing in amazing spaces, inspired by the awesome people around you and inspiring others too. It’s a challenge but we’ll support you every step of the way. It takes serious preparation but it’s seriously rewarding.
As part of the Orchestra you’ll find a place to shape your world through music. You’ll soar in your musical development, discover new music and new ideas, and play your part as an inspirational role model for other young people.

Join us for Shifting Sounds, a FREE one-day taster event delivered by Daisi, Devon and Torbay’s Arts and Education Charity. Designed to inspire and educate young people about electronic music and its production. Through hands-on workshops, live performance and music professionals’ Q&A panel, discover the world of music production DAWs, interactive software, synthesisers, DJing and career pathways in the music industry. If you’re aged 11-19 and have an interest in electronic music making (no previous knowledge or skills needed), this day is for you! The day will be split into a morning session for 11–15 years and an afternoon session for 16 -19 years.
Big Dreams Live Music Takeover is an interactive reading of the book Big Dreams for Families and children aged 6+ taking place at Exeter Phoenix on Monday 14 April. With live musicians, sing-a-long songs and a chance to float away as we create our own Big Dream Lullabies together. Come on this interactive adventure with Big Music Collective as we listen to the story live narrated with musicians; sing-a-long to the songs Buzzy Brain, Hendrix the Roller skating Disco Cat, The Moon Song and play with the puppets, sensory instruments and more!
