With the Local Election scheduled for Thursday 1 May 2025, we have now entered the pre-election period and we are scaling back our communications in line with the Local Government Association (LGA) pre-election guidance.
The Devon County Council elections are taking place on Thursday 1 May. They’re your chance to be heard on the issues you care about, the ones that affect you, your family and your community.
It’s important to make an informed decision about who you want to vote for, so make sure you do your research about what the candidates in your area are standing for and what issues are important to them. A list of candidates for each area is available on our website.
To be able to vote in May you’ll need to make sure you’re registered to vote before the deadline on Friday 11 April. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is also coming up soon on Monday 14 April.

The NHS's bowel cancer screening programme now includes everyone over the age of 50 years old. You’ll automatically be sent an screening kit when you become eligible. Don’t ignore it, it’s the most important post you’ll receive.

 Timetables changes to Devon bus network
From Sunday 20 April, there will be changes to the Devon bus network. Stagecoach is making changes to its services to improve reliability and punctuality, and there are also some improvements to services that we've paid for using the Government's Department for Transport’s Bus Service Improvement Plan funding.
The NHS in Devon is encouraging those eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination to get themselves protected this spring. They will be sending out invitations, but you do not need to wait to book your appointment. You can check your eligibility and book online on the NHS website.

It's 'Carers Active April', and research from Carers UK found that 67 per cent of unpaid carers said taking part in physical activity helped them feel more connected to other people. Devon Carers' peer support service has organised two walks to help unpaid carers take a break and enjoy some movement while meeting other carers.
There is less than a week to go to tell Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service what you think about how they should respond to automatic fire alarms. Their firefighters are attending thousands of automatic fire alarms that turn out to be false alarms every year, so they are consulting on a range of options that set out how they might change their response so that they can provide a better service to communities.
 New rules simplifying recycling for workplaces
New Government rules to simplify how workplaces in England sort their recycling and waste have now come into force. It means that organisations with 10 or more employees must ensure their waste is separated for recycling.
