Our head of legal services, Maria Price (who is charged with ensuring that elections are delivered fairly and correctly) is advising Devon’s first-time voters to consider what matters most to them when deciding which candidate to vote for at this May’s Devon County Council elections.
Vital sampling work carried out by our trading standards service has lifted the lid on the sale of ‘nicotine free’ vapes across the region which actually contain nicotine. Now these results will be fed back to a number of Government agencies to help shape legislation governing how the products are regulated in future.

Call for more Enterprise Advisers to help inspire future careers
An appeal has been launched for local business people to volunteer their time to support the “Enterprise Adviser” initiative run by Devon, Plymouth and Torbay Careers Hub. They're looking for professionals from any business sector or background to use their skills, business experience and networks to help local secondary schools or colleges to develop strong careers programmes that support all students.
The legacy of our year-long 'Connecting You' pilot project, which trialled a number of innovative transport schemes in Devon to help reduce loneliness, is still being felt today. The initiative, which was one of 12 across the country supported with the Department for Transport’s Tackling Loneliness with Transport funding in 2022, aimed to reduce loneliness in over-55’s and young people aged 16-24 years old.
 Thousands more children to receive Bikeability cycle training
Over 9,300 schoolchildren in Devon are to benefit from Bikeability cycle training this financial year thanks to funding recently announced by the Government and Active Travel England (ATE) for cycling and walking projects in Devon.
 Another big increase in Devon secondary school first preferences
New figures announced this week show that 93.5 per cent of families who applied for a place at one of Devon's secondary schools next September have been offered their first preference. In all, 98.2 per cent of families will get one of their three preferences with 4.1 per cent allocated their second preference and 0.5 per cent their third.
