Norovirus increase: advice poster
The latest data from UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) show norovirus cases are now at their highest levels since reporting began in 2014. It also shows a shift in circulating strains, which means that people who have already had the virus this winter could be at risk again. The impact is particularly severe in hospitals and care homes, with cases highest among people aged 65 and over.
It’s a good time to remind staff and visitors to care settings about the simple steps they can take to avoid spreading the infection.
The UKHSAs "Stop Norovirus Spreading" poster summarises the key advice you need to know and is available as a PDF to download, print and display.
Reminder: Engagement on the Older Persons’ (65+) Care Homes Fee Model and 2025 Fees Uplift
Devon County Council (DCC) would like to remind all providers to participate in the ongoing engagement on the proposed new fee model for Older Persons’ (65+) care home placements and the 2025 fees uplift. The engagement period, which began on 10th February 2025, will close at midnight on Sunday 23rd March 2025.
This is an important opportunity to share your views on the proposed changes. The new fee model will apply to all new and reviewed placements for clients over 65, and an annual uplift will take effect from 7th April 2025. Your feedback is important in shaping the future of care home services in Devon.
The Care Home Forum on Tuesday, 4th March, was well attended. Thank you to everyone who participated and provided feedback. The presentation slides and the Full Valuing Care Report are now available on our website. Please visit Older Person’s (65+) Care Homes Fee Model and 2025 Fees Uplift - Provider Engagement Network for all the information including how to feedback.
In response to feedback from providers at the forum and the Devon Care Home Collaborative, we are planning to schedule another webinar next week.
For all other questions or queries please email socialcarebusinessrelationsmailbox@devon.gov.uk with the subject line: Care Home OP Fee Model and Fees Uplift Engagement 2025/26.
World TB Day Webinar for care staff and settings – ask for questions
Devon Integrated Care Board are facilitating a webinar recording in March to provide staff in social care settings and providers with an opportunity to increase awareness around Tuberculosis. Issues to be addressed include risk factors, the symptoms, how it is diagnosed and treated, what contact tracing and screening may be needed and, importantly, how social care providers can support staff to stay well alongside those they are caring for.
We want to try and answer as many questions or queries that care settings have as possible and so are asking for people to send in questions by 10 March using this simple form https://forms.office.com/e/3RQniFkrz1.
Once the webinar is recorded it will be shared and available to watch at a time convenient to your staff.

Good News Story - Sundial Care Home welcomes Animals 2U
Sundial Care Home located near Sidmouth, welcomed some very small and unusual guests recently, as Animals 2U brought a selection of creatures for a hands-on experience for those living there.
Among the visitors were tortoises, Tortellini and Timothy, bearded dragon, Rocky, and guinea pig, Ethel, each offering a unique interaction for residents, who the home fondly refer to as family members. The visit provided a chance to stroke, hold and observe each animal, sparking conversation and fond memories of pets from the past. For those unable to leave their beds, the experience was brought to them, ensuring everybody was included. These quiet, one-to-one moments provided a calming and engaging experience, particularly for those with a Dementia, who found comfort in the familiar textures and movements.
The visit encouraged connection and curiosity, with residents asking questions and sharing stories about their own animals. Sundial Care Home recognises the value of these interactions, supporting wellbeing and bringing a sense of warmth and companionship to daily life.
