With cyber-attacks on the increase, it’s important that we are all up-to-date with the measures needed to protect us, hence the new offer of support for small providers in this issue.
We do our best to keep the content and structure of our PEN website up-to-date in these fast-changing times and your suggestions on how to improve the website are always welcome.
Care Home access to Devon Care Coordination Service
NHS Devon Integrated Care Board (ICB) understands the importance of timely access to specialist support and guidance to ensure that you are able to care for your residents within the home and prevent avoidable admissions to hospital. To that end, the ICB has been able to arrange for Care Homes in Devon to have direct access to the Devon Care Coordination service. This is a service that offers timely access and guidance to a team of clinical specialists with direct access to local service offers and can ensure we can offer both guidance and onward access to wrap around support services as part of our local offer.
This has been put in place to mean you only call 999 for an ambulance when it is absolutely needed. The service operates from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.
The service will operate alongside existing support through your aligned GP practice and the 111 service, but we ask with immediate effect that if your teams are considering calling 999 between 8 am and 8pm, unless it is a life threatening situation, they first contact the Care Coordination Hub on 01752 422 734 for advice on alternative pathways and support.
Guidelines on how to contact can be found here.
To support the implementation of this, please find attached a poster to raise awareness with your teams, and information that also helps with when to use GP, Care Coordination, 111 and 999.
NHS Devon ICB will be following up with direct contact to homes in the next week, and are keen to work with you in the coming weeks to understand the impact this is having and any further support arrangements we can consider putting in place.
We would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of NHS Devon ICB and our partners to thank you for your continued support to the local health system and your help in implementing the above changes.

Cyber Resilience: support for small providers
Digital Care Hub has launched a new support programme for care providers with up to 50 staff in the North West, West Midlands and South West. Funded through the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology’s Cyber Local programme, this new service will help providers to strengthen their ability to manage cyber security incidents. It includes in-person workshops, cyber vulnerability assessments, and webinars based on typical cyber incidents.
The programme is being delivered by four of local support organisations in partnership with the national team and police-led Cyber Resilience Centres. The workshops and assessments are available to 10 care providers in each of the three regions and will prioritise CQC-registered services and day care. The webinars are open to all small providers.
Digital Care Hub’s local support organisations are proactively inviting small providers in their regions to take part. If you meet the eligibility criteria and have not been invited to take part by mid-January, you may wish to contact your support organisation.
