Last week over fifty young musicians from Hub-supported Torbay and South Devon Music Centre (TSDMC) had the the amazing opportunity to play at London's iconic Royal Albert Hall. They performed alongside singers and instrumentalists from all corners of the UK as part of the creative project at this year's Music For Youth Proms. This year, the creative project featured new work by composer Cassie Kinoshi jointly commissioned by Music For Youth, ABRSM and the BBC Ten Pieces initiative. Well done to all of the young musicians involved as well as the staff and volunteers that made opportunity possible.
Thank you to Tiverton High School for hosting Tuesday’s Hub Sounds events featuring The Sound of the Streets, Ashleigh Turley from InFocus Charity, the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra Ambassadors and young performers from Tiverton High School. Devon Music Education Hub would like acknowledge the generous support of Tiverton High School for hosting these events.

Despite the extreme disappointment of cancelling one of their performances due to the adverse weather that swept through Exeter on Thursday 21 November, Teachers Rock®, 250 young people and their dedicated teachers united for an unforgettable night of inspirational singing in Exeter Cathedral on Friday 22 November. This incredible collaboration turned their remaining performance into a masterpiece of resilience and joy.
The evening opened with a breath taking collaboration on All Together Now, where powerful harmonies joined a triumphant brass fanfare and a stunning string ensemble. Another highlight of the evening was a moving, massed rendition of Stormzy’s Blinded By Your Grace. Featuring an electrifying rap that brought together all participants, the performance was a bold celebration of diversity and unity. It captured the essence of contemporary music’s ability to inspire across generations, leaving the audience visibly moved by its raw emotion and energy. The festive spirit shone brightly with the a stunning performance of New Born King, a moment of pure Christmas joy. The grand finale was nothing short of spectacular: a rousing rendition of Circle of Life. The choir delivered a dazzling collaboration, enhanced by the exhilarating rhythm of a taiko drumming accompaniment that added an enigmatic, primal energy, concluding on an unforgettable high.
This unique event wasn’t just a concert; it was a testament to the power of music, community, and the unyielding spirit of our educational community. Together, they transformed disappointment into triumph, filling Exeter Cathedral with harmony and hope.
