Fleet Care Home ‘Row the Dart!’ - Good News Story

Money raised

On the 19th of November 2024, The Fleet Care Home in Dartmouth hosted a day of fun, fitness, and fundraising. Our ‘Row the Dart’ event set out to row the entire length of the River Dart, some 75km in support of the ‘Make a Wish’ charity.

With the support, of staff, residents and our fantastic local community we not only managed the 75km distance but smashed it!

As the day went on and the massive support we had received, a new target was set; to Row the Dart and back! We ended up Rowing over 150 km!! Making the distance, there and back!

West Heanton Care Home ‘Highly Commended’ at the Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards – Good News Story

West Heanton Care Home and care hub in Beaworthy were delighted and honoured to be Shortlisted as a Finalist in the 2024 Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards earlier in the year. It came as a surprise as West Heanton had entered the Sustainability Category, however the judging panel were impressed with the unique family history and ethos and they were Highly Commended in the Family Business of the Year category instead.

West Heanton is run by Tom Bond, who is the third generation of the family to run the care home, founded in 1991 by Tom’s grandparents, Sid and Phylis, who decided to open the care home after struggling to find care for Tom’s great grandfather in their rural community.

The award celebrates family businesses that are exemplary employers, growing sustainably and having a positive impact on their communities. Tom commented that “We couldn’t have done it without our amazing team and the support of our wonderful West Heanton community.”
