We do our best to keep the content and structure of our PEN website up-to-date in these fast-changing times and your suggestions on how to improve the website are always welcome.


Reminder to Register for next week’s Care Home Fee Model  Engagement Session

As previously announced, Devon County Council is excited to share important updates with Care Home providers through a series of online events this month. Each 90-minute session will focus on specific topics related to the Older Person’s Fee Model Review, with all necessary information shared beforehand.

Session 1: Service Descriptors Tuesday, 12 November, 2-3:30 pm

This first session is just around the corner! Since our launch event in March, we’ve been gathering valuable feedback on the service descriptors. Now, it’s your chance to offer further insights and ask questions about the updated versions, which were shared in a bulletin on 4 November, along with the registration links.

If you haven’t received the invitation to register for these sessions and believe you should be included, please contact us at socialcarebusinessrelations-mailbox@devon.gov.uk and we will get the information sent out to you.  Hope to see you there!


Covid-19 and Flu Vaccination Campaign Update – great progress in Devon Care Homes

91% of Devon care homes have been visited by the vaccination team, with the Southwest leading nationally with Care Home vaccination uptake of 73%.  A big thank you to all the homes for enabling these visits to occur soeffectively.

Frontline Health and Social Care staff vaccination data is showing 25% uptake on Covid-19 and 33% uptake for influenza vaccinations, please remind your staff that there is still time to get theirs, appointments can be made via the Vaccinations National Booking Service - NHS England Digital or by attending a walk in site

Polite reminder to update the Capacity Tracker with the Covid-19 and Flu vaccination uptake numbers, so the data truly reflects Devon’s success so far.

Wellbeing Buddy Training Opportunities

The Devon Wellbeing Hub are pleased to offer another one-day course to train colleagues to become Wellbeing Buddies and a refresher course for existing Wellbeing Buddies.

Also known as Wellbeing Champions, Buddies support the wellbeing of colleagues within their organisation

In-person Buddy Training

The in-person training will be led by the Hub’s Colleague Wellbeing Practitioners and will explore a number of topics, including the role of a Wellbeing Buddy, effective wellbeing conversations, signposting and supporting your own wellbeing.

The training will take place at the conference room at Aperture House, Pynes Hill, Exeter on Thursday 21 November, from 9-5pm.

To sign up, please email dpt.devonwellbeing@nhs.net – you will then be sent a Wellbeing Buddy Agreement which needs to be completed before your place can be allocated.

Online Buddy Refresher Training

The Hub are also offering a virtual ‘Wellbeing Buddy Refresher Training’ session on Wednesday 4 December, 9:30-12:30 via MS Teams.

This informal session is for colleagues who have trained to be a Wellbeing Buddy/Champion within the last 18 months and have been active in this role. It offers an opportunity to connect with one another, share experiences and self-care tips, as well as practice skills.

Diwali at Hatherleigh Nursing Home: Culture, Community, and Cuisine - Good news story

Hatherleigh Nursing Home, in Okehampton recently celebrated Diwali in a warm, inclusive event featuring the richness of Indian cuisine and culture.

The celebration featured a vibrant and flavourful spread of traditional Indian dishes prepared by team members Gurjeet and Jisho. The menu included Chicken Biryani, crispy Veg Manchurian, Chilli Cauliflower, Veg Fried Rice, Vermicelli Pudding, and refreshing Curd Salad. This selection allowed everyone to dive into authentic flavours, celebrating the essence of Diwali through food and shared experiences.

The team at Hatherleigh Nursing Home also transformed their dining room with bursts of colour and light. The decorations added to this memorable and immersive experience.

Team Member Faye said, “It was great, our family members tucked into the dishes really well!”

Microproviders are local people offering good quality, reliable and professional support to others in their community. Anyone can do this but sometimes they need a hand to get started or to check they are getting it right.
