 Dear Academy Headteacher Colleagues
Devon Education Forum (DEF): Appointment of Primary and Secondary Academy Schools Members plus named Substitutes (for the remainder of office to 31 August 2026)
Further to our previous communication regarding vacancies on Devon Education Forum (DEF), we are still seeking nominations from Primary and Secondary Colleagues who would be willing to fill the vacancies on Devon Education Forum as follows:
Academy Members
Secondary Headteacher Named Substitute (x1)
Primary Headteacher Named Substitute (x1)
A Named Substitute would only be required to attend meetings on the occasional event that one of the full voting members is unable to attend to ensure that each phase and sector is adequately represented for decision-making purposes.
As a key statutory board, which is regulated by the ESFA, the full quota of both schools' and academies' membership need to be appointed to enable DEF to be quorate and operate in accordance with its constitution and procedural requirements.
To be compliant with ESFA regulations, L/A School and Academy members must be openly advertised and elected within their respective constituent sectors. DSLS administers the election process and must ensure that every sector to be represented on DEF has had the opportunity to stand for election and/or vote in such an election.
On behalf of the DSLS Schools Executive Committee, please could we ask school leaders from Devon’s Academy sector to reconsider this opportunity to represent their constituent sector on Devon Education Forum and if willing, to submit their name as a nomination for 1 of the above vacant positions.
Nominations from school leaders should be via this online nomination form no later than 12.00pm on 4 November 2024.
Please note that the current DEF Constitution states that Schools and Academy members must be substantive headteachers or principals and currently serving within Devon local authority.
DEF meets quarterly on a Wednesday morning at DCC County Hall and dates for 2024/25 are as follows:
20 November 2024
22 January 2025
19 March 2025
18 June 2025
When representing Devon schools on DEF and/or other local authority working groups, schools will be remunerated for the leadership time out of school at a rate of £50 per hour, invoiced and paid on a termly basis.
