Centre news for October

English Conference 2024
We are looking forward to seeing you at the English Conference next month, being held at the Future Skills Centre, Exeter College. A few of the SLS team will be there so please come and say hello. There will be an opportunity to purchase discounted book packs and individual titles on the day, so please bring your pennies! Click here for more details.

FREE library network meetings for Autumn term

Our library network meetings are free of charge!!. They are led by the SLS advisory team and are a source of up-to-date information, the sharing of ideas and good practice.

Primary

Wednesday 16 October at Willowbrook Primary School
Thursday 17 October is an on-line meeting only

Focus: Looking at non-fiction in your school.

Secondary

Tuesday 26 November at West Buckland School
Wednesday 27 November at The King's School

Focus: Opportunities for CPD and further training.

All meetings begin at 1.30pm, book your place now.

15 titles for October

To coincide with Maths Week during 11-17 November, this month we have collated a list of fiction and non-fiction titles around maths and computing.

The introduction of a range of maths and computing language at the appropriate level, using fiction and biography as well as information books, can help develop subject specific vocabulary and skills.

Planning ahead for Christmas?

This year we have designed a brand new reading activity for Primary classes in the run up to Christmas.

You may order the books to accompany this as part of your exchange or as a topic, or you can purchase them from our bookshop at 25% off rrp.

We now have around 25 teen titles that have 6 copies or more.

These are available for you to borrow as a topic box for use in your book clubs.
Available to all schools (non-subscribing schools can hire on a termly basis, contact us for costs).

Stocked with a hand-picked selection of junior fiction, Accelerated Reader books, non-fiction and picture books.
Staffed by one of our experienced librarians.
Available for children of all ages to visit and select books for their school library.

A unique learning experience for your pupils - some children may never have experienced a mobile library before!
• A useful resource for staff to choose books for their class.
• A place to spend story time.
