Do you work with children and/or adults including pregnant women? Make sure you have had 2 doses of the MMR Vaccination

You should have the vaccine to protect yourself against 3 serious infections. By doing so you will also help to protect others who can’t have the vaccine. These include unborn babies, infants who are too young to have the vaccine and children or adults who can’t have the vaccine because they have weakened immune systems.

You should also have the vaccine if you work with young children or care for people as part of your work. Passing on measles to children who are too young to have the MMR vaccine or to someone who is already ill, can have very serious consequences for their health.

You can get your vaccination free of charge via your GP practice. To find out more visit:

Scam Awareness – Help from Trading Standards

We all know that scams are out there; we need to know how to avoid them.  Typically, scam victims include the elderly and the vulnerable, who may be more at risk if they live alone.

Trading Standards are able to help people to avoid scams – can they help you to help those that you care for to avoid scams?

They offer information and training sessions, leaflets that you can share with colleagues and clients and access to help from free online resources.

If you would like some help or if you have any queries about this, please contact Denise Dearden at the Heart of the South West Trading Standards Service on 01392 383000 or denise.dearden@devon.gov.uk.

Heanton Nursing Home Celebrates New Garden Water Feature - Good News Story

Heanton Nursing Home in North Devon are now admiring the newest addition to their garden – a beautiful stone water feature. Generously fundraised and donated by Alan Fulford, husband to Dorothy, a resident in the care home.

Alan shared his motivation behind the donation, mentioning that ‘Dorothy loved to sit by the fountain at home.’ He and a friend attended numerous car boot sales selling gold to raise the funds needed to purchase the same fountain that he and Dorothy enjoyed together. Now, they can continue to enjoy the feature at Heanton Nursing Home. Danielle, a Kitchen Assistant, said how Dorothy ‘asked me to take her out to see it’ after a shopping trip, and after they settled in the garden listening to the calming stream, Dorothy said “oh it’s peaceful isn’t it.”

To thank Alan for his gift, the home has arranged for a plaque for the wall above the fountain, which will remind all of his kindness and generosity.
