Community pharmacy makes up one of the four pillars of the primary care system in England, along with general practice, optical services and dentistry. It is arguably most well-known as a dispenser and retailer of medicines, but its role is in fact much broader and includes other NHS and publicly funded services.
Community pharmacies can be found in many high street locations, in supermarkets or attached to doctors’ surgeries. There are also a range of online community pharmacies.
There has been a great deal of change in community pharmacies, the services they provide and how they are funded. In Devon we currently have 202 community pharmacies. In the last 12 months, 22 community pharmacies have closed.
NHS Devon is now responsible for the commissioning of community pharmacy services and to best serve the Devon population, we are in the process of writing a community pharmacy strategy.
To help understand how pharmacies are used now and what we need for the future, we would appreciate if you could complete this survey.
If you need help to complete this survey or would like to request another format, please contact v.mitchell7@nhs.net.
If you wish to know more about community pharmacies and the work that we are doing, please visit the ICB Community Pharmacy webpage.
Thank you for your valuable feedback.
Good news story - Northam's Super Summer Fete
The Northam Care Trust in North Devon held their yearly Summer Fete on the 6th of July where they raised an incredible £1,139.50 (a record amount for this event)! The trust would like to thank everyone involved with the event and everyone who attended and supported us on the day, this is a true testament to the supportive community we have around us.
The funds raised from the event will go towards their aim of building a hydrotherapy pool onsite at Rosehill. This will be a fully accessible pool for adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or complex needs in the local community and surrounding areas. This is a huge project for The Trust and every penny donated/fundraised counts! If you’d like to support this project, follow the link below:
