This week's issue notices the importance of listening as well as a launch of a new CareFind website.
We do our best to keep the content and structure of our PEN website up-to-date in these fast-changing times and your suggestions on how to improve the website are always welcome.
Care Home Providers: CareFind
The CareFind launch for the website is taking place on 17July.
We want to ensure that your location appears on CareFind and notice that whilst you’ve completed nearly all of the information necessary for your location to be included, we notice that your profile does not have any photo/images currently added to your CareFind profile.
After researching, one of the areas of feedback that we received indicated that photos of the care home were 'very important' to them.
Therefore, whilst we recognise that not all care homes have a gallery of accessible photographs, we do ask a Care Home location to upload at least one image, ideally showing the outside of their location or a typical room.
What do you need to do to appear in CareFind on 17 July 2024?
- If you are happy for the Capacity Tracker Support Team to upload a photo of your location on your behalf, please send the image directly via email to carefind@nhs.net- the name of your location, postcode and confirmation to upload the image on your behalf must be included in the email along with the image you would like to use (if you do not have an image, a 'brand' logo is a good alternative and can be used as a placeholder)
- Log into Capacity Tracker and access the CareFind public profile page for your location(s) – follow the linkto the step by step guide. (titled How to Upload an Image)
- Add at least one image of your Care Home to your CareFind profile - if you need assistance, we're happy to help - please reach out to us by emailing carefind@nhs.netor calling our Support Centre 0191 691 3729 (8am-5pm Monday-Friday, excluding Bank Holidays)
- Check your information and click 'Add to CareFind'
Devon Wellbeing Hub testimonial – the power of listening

Old Friends research project for Care Homes and residents pets
If you work in a residential care setting for older people and have any experience of residents either bringing companion animals with them, or having to part with companion animals when they move in, then please respond below for a research project run by a team at the University of Exeter and funded by the Society for Companion Animal Studies.
The purpose of this research project is to understand how care homes in the south west region of the UK approach the issue of residents’ pets, including current policies towards pets in care homes. We also hope to document the experiences of care home staff to assess their perceptions of risks versus benefits of allowing residents to be accompanied by their pets, as well as the experiences of elderly care home residents and their companion animals.
They are seeking responses from care home staff to a short series of questions: https://app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/exeter/old-friends-the-impacts-of-separating-elderly-humans-from-com-2
If you have ay questions please email e.stone4@exeter.ac.uk
Good news story - Teignmouth Primary School and Nursery
'WE ARE TEIGNMOUTH' WEEK
'We Are Teignmouth Week 2024' happened this week, where lovely Oak Class pupils visited Croft Lodge Care Home. They spent some time with the residents reading from their library books and even some of their own writing from their English books.
The children enjoyed asking questions about the residents' lives and there were wonderful conversations about favourite artists, WW2 stories and past careers, experiences and achievements.
The children represented the school beautifully and we are very proud of all them. We hope the residents enjoyed the visit as much as we did.
