Cryptosporidium in Brixham - Vulnerable People in TQ5 area - Newsflash

For the attention of adult social care providers in South Devon who may be affected by the Cryptosporidium found in the water supply in and around Brixham.

South West Water (SWW) has confirmed that low levels of Cryptosporidium has been found in the local supply of water in and around Brixham.

The water company is advising residents in Kingswear, Brixham, Churston, Galmpton, Broadsands, Hookhills and White Rock areas to boil drinking water until further notice.

SWW will be hand delivering notices to all the properties affected. Text messages have also been sent.

If not already registered, call  0344 346 1010 to register - this is a number just for this incident. This form  https://www.southwestwater.co.uk/household/help-support/priority-services will also enable registration.

Infection Prevention Advice:

As with any D&V illness, any staff who are unwell with D&V symptoms are infectious and should stay off work. They should not return to work until have been free from diarrhoea and/or vomiting for 48 hours. This should also apply to visitors to settings.

Staff should tell employers they have had cryptosporidiosis if you work with vulnerable groups such as the young, the elderly, those in poor health, or if you handle food.

Hot water and soap should be used regularly for hand washing, antibacterial gels are not sufficient.
