Market Sustainability and Improvement Fund: Short Workforce Survey for CQC-registered providers to complete by 7 May
The Market Sustainability and Improvement Fund (MSIF) was announced in the Autumn statement in November 2022. The primary purpose of the fund is to support local authorities to make tangible improvements to adult social care services in their area, in particular to build capacity and improve market sustainability.
In April 2023 all councils were required to provide an update to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) with regards to the number of workforce in the region, DHSC has required the same dataset to be provided this year. Please can all CQC registered providers complete this short form which asks for the number of staff your organisation recruited and the numbers which resigned in April 2024.
In the future DHSC have indicated they will use Capacity Tracker for this data but a manual return is required this year. We appreciate the time and effort of your organisation to participate
The council hopes this is a positive step by the government in recognising the value of care workers and the pressures providers experience due to workforce capacity, this is your opportunity to highlight the Devon position.
We would appreciate if you can complete and submit this return no later than midnight on Tuesday 7 May 2024.

Care Homes Valuing Care Update, Webinar on 1 May
We have listened to the feedback received and taken the decision to delay the launch of the Valuing Care exercise by a few weeks. We feel it’s important that when we do launch, there is confidence in the process and the additional time will allow us to gain further feedback and make changes to the templates.
We will now:
- Review the cost template based on the feedback received.
- Update the FAQs to ensure we capture all the questions you have asked and they will be available at the launch event.
- Develop the service descriptors.
We heard from you that the service descriptors were not clear enough and that there were some concerns about some of the language used. We also think it’s important that the service descriptors work for the people that you care for and work alongside so in addition to further feedback from yourselves we will also be seeking feedback from:
- Service users and carers
- Age UK
- DCC operational colleagues
- NHS colleagues
We would also like to give the opportunity to hear further feedback on the service descriptors from providers on Wednesday 1 May 2.30-3.30 pm.
Please register for the webinar.
