We held a community event in Exton to provide an update on the flood resilience pilot projects that are being carried out through DRIP. We had talks from Devon Communities Together, Westcountry Rivers Trust, Devon County Council and our PhD students from the University of Exeter and Plymouth University. This was followed by a site visit to view the recently installed smart gullies and locations of proposed natural flood management. It was great to have productive discussions between the organisations working in the area, councillors and local residents forming the flood group to further improve flood resilience in Exton. We will provide an update once further interventions have been installed. 

The BRIC team have been using a new creative engagement activity with communities, called Puddle to Flood. The activity is a conversation starter, asking people to think about the question “When does a puddle become a flood?” while doing something crafty. Through making ‘puddles’ with cardboard and fabric, the team are building up a collaborative visual representation of the important conversations this activity is facilitating – with a goal to display all the puddles at an exhibition in Plymouth next year.
