Centre news for April

Welcome back, we hope you've had a restful break.

Topic box deliveries
Topic box requests for the Summer term will be delivered from 17 April.

If you have any last minute requests, please send them in as soon as possible.

Welcome to our new Library Assistant, Jacqui Betts

Hi, I’m Jacqui and I’m delighted to join Devon School library service.

In previous lives - and in no particular order - I’ve been a secondary English teacher, an outdoor education instructor and a cob building apprentice. I love books and reading, and I love running, so I reckon I’ve landed my perfect job in the cavernous enclave of Devon Schools’ library!

I’m very much looking forward to meeting, and working, with you all.

15 Titles

Each month the advisory team collate lists for KS1, KS2 and Teens on topical themes.

This month our 15 Titles booklist has been created to compliment Earth Day on 22 April. The chosen books highlight conservation issues and celebrate the wonders of nature.

Library network meetings - Summer term

Our library network meetings are free of charge!!. They are led by the SLS advisory team and are a source of up-to-date information, the sharing of ideas and good practice.

Primary

Tuesday 14 May at White Rock Primary School with guest speaker, author Clare Helen Welsh
Wednesday 15 May is an on-line meeting only

Focus: Wellbeing and empathy book collections in school libraries.

Secondary

Wednesday 26 June at Ilfracombe Academy
Thursday 27 June at St Cuthbert Mayne School

Focus: Wellbeing and empathy book collections in school libraries.

All meetings begin at 1.30pm, book your place now.

Yoto Carnegie medal for illustration celebration event

We are delighted to announce that we will be holding a Carnegie Medal for Illustration Celebration Event again this year.

Our free event is being held on 19 June at Pathfield School and provides an opportunity for schools to bring along a group of pupils. The event is open for pupils from Key Stages 2 and 3.

Non-fiction library pack

Has the non-fiction in your library become neglected of late?

We have developed a simplified non-fiction system to help!

Our pack of resources will help you create an attractive, easy to manage, section of child friendly information, promoting reading of non-fiction for pleasure and strengthening subject interest.

This resource is free to all schools, please email us to request your copy.

Subscribing schools can book their adviser to weed, label and reorganise their library or to train staff, pupil librarians or lower KS2 classes how to use the new non-fiction section.
