Cyber-attacks and data security breaches often make headline news these days, with dire consequences for the organisations and individuals affected. Make sure you take advantage of the national support available to ensure your system and data are secure.
We do our best to keep the content and structure of our PEN website up-to-date in these fast-changing times and your suggestions on how to improve the website are always welcome.
Better Security, Better Care Data and Cybersecurity Support
Better Security, Better Care is a national and local support programme to help adult social care providers to store and share information safely. It covers paper and digital records and focuses on helping care providers to complete the Data Security and Protection Toolkit – the annual, online self-assessment.
As a care provider, the programme will help you to evaluate and improve your data and cyber security. This means you can reassure the people you support and their families, your staff, commissioners, regulators, and health and care partners, that you are following good practice – and meeting legal and regulatory requirements.
You do not have to be a data or digital expert to get support. The programme can support you – wherever you are on your data security journey.

Career Pathway Tool and Quiz to support recruitment and career development
The Proud to Care and Workforce Training and Education Team have developed an interactive career pathway tool with role profiles and a career quiz.
This will aim to attract more people into careers in the adult social care sector and retain them by encouraging promotion or educational opportunities, as well as enabling them to see the full scope of career pathways across social care.
We need your help to test out the tool and the role profiles. We are aiming that this will be a career tool that you can use to support career conversations.
Let us know what you think - on the career quiz there is a feedback link where you can add your thoughts or click here.
Improvements to Online Forms for Professional Referrals and Finance Queries
In our efforts to streamline procedures and improve efficiency, we encountered technical difficulties with online forms on our website for professional enquiries, finance queries, and invoice reprint requests.
Following a comprehensive investigation and collaboration, we're pleased to announce that all issues have been resolved, ensuring as far as possible a seamless experience for users.
We encourage providers to utilise our online forms for:
- Professional referrals
- Finance queries and invoice reprints
All of this is accessible through our website. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and support as we strive to support individuals and those that deliver adult social care.
We welcome feedback or any comments for improvement.

Good News Story - Celebrating Easter Weekend at Sundial Care Home
Sundial Care Home welcomed the spirit of Easter with open arms this year, offering residents, who the home fondly refer to as family members, a celebration filled with delightful activities and treats.
To mark the start to the weekend, the residential care home in Tipton St John looked forward to an afternoon of easter crafts and hot cross buns. Family members and team members came together to decorate charming crochet chicks and bunnies, crafted and handmade by a talented team member. Easter bonnet making was also a popular choice of activity with the family members, everyone thoroughly enjoyed personalising and crafting their individual bonnets, encouraging creativity and social interaction within the home.
On Easter Sunday, there was a treat trolly, laid with an array of chocolate and sweet delights for everybody to choose from. Family members were amused to see the trolly was pushed by the Easter Bunny himself! The team will certainly remember the laughs and smiles that echoed throughout the home on that day.
The Easter weekend at Sundial Care Home was a testament to the community's commitment to creating meaningful and memorable experiences for all family members. As they reflect on the weekend's festivities, Sundial Care Home looks forward to continuing to nurture a vibrant and inclusive environment for its family members to lead a true continuation of life.
