Centre news for March

New team member Jacqui Betts will be joining us as a library assistant on 11 March 2024.  Look out for her personal intro section next month. Topic box collections Spring topics will be collected w/c 18 March, please can you make sure they are boxed up and ready. 15 Titles

Each month the advisory team collate lists for KS1, KS2 and Teens on topical themes. This month our 15 Titles booklist has been created to compliment British Science Week, being held 8-17 March. This is a ten day celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

World book day - 7 March 2024

Quiz Our advisers have devised a new quiz for World Book Day, which you can download and use in your school.  For full details and resources please see our World Book Day page (WBD 2024) by following the link below. Competition Winners We received so many wonderful, creative entries for our 'Bookface' competition, thank you to everyone that participated.  The winners will be available to view shortly on our WBD 2024 page.

Secondary library network meeting - still time to sign up!

Our library network meetings are free of charge!!. They are led by the SLS advisory team and are a source of up-to-date information, the sharing of ideas and good practice. Secondary Tuesday 12 March at Great Torrington School Wednesday 16 March at Exeter School Focus: Carnegie shadowing tips and ideas, and other awards. All meetings begin at 1.30pm, book your place now.

Empathy booklists

EmpathyLab have been producing a Read for Empathy Book Collection every year since 2017. The booklists are for both parents and teachers, consisting of 65 books for 3–16 year olds.  Please click below for the complete lists, you can purchase these books from us at a 25% discount off RRP.

Yoto Carnegie Celebration Event - Secondary schools

We are excited to announce that Candy Gourlay will be the guest author at our Yoto Carnegie shadowing events this year. These will take place on 12 and 13 June, with teams consisting of up to 10 pupils.   Please follow the link for more information and to book your place. Creating a reading culture across the curriculum - with the support of EdTech
Tuesday 19 March
We are delighted to be hosting the above event with Renaissance which will give you the opportunity to network with other experienced school leaders. Margaret Allen, Education and Curriculum Specialist at Renaissance, will also lead a session on how to develop reading across the curriculum including advice on promoting opportunities to increase vocabulary acquisition and how to support parents at home.

We are offering the option of a morning session (at 10am) or an afternoon session (at 1pm) so that you can choose the most convenient session for you. Places are limited and are offered on a first-come first-served basis. We kindly ask that each school reserves a maximum of two seats.
