Devon & Torbay Music Education Hubs are delighted to offer young musicians from schools and hub supported activities the opportunity to perform on the main stage at Devon County Show 2024. We are looking for young musicians from Torbay and Devon schools to perform on Thursday 16 May and Friday 17 May. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the musical talent of our young people and provide a much needed outlet to perform and experience live music again. As usual, performers and accompanying staff will benefit from free access to the rest of the showground for the whole day.
Based at Coombeshead Academy in Newton Abbot, The Bushell Youth Community Orchestra (BYCO) provide opportunities that develop and enrich local young orchestral musicians. An open day for all prospective instrumentalists is being held on Tuesday 20 February to which all our established orchestral members are invited. During the day, our orchestra members will act as mentors to the young people attending the workshop and also have the chance to spend the day rehearsing and improving their musicianship, by working with our peripatetic music teachers. The initial timings are a 11.30am start with a 3.00pm finish, more information will follow once I have an idea of the number of people attending the workshop day.
Devon & Torbay Music Education Hubs are working in collaboration with Plymouth Music Education Hub to deliver a series of three Secondary Music Networking events across the region. Dave Perrett (Secondary music adviser for Plymouth Music Education Hub), will be facilitating discussions around several areas e.g. planning and sequencing curriculum music, the challenges facing composition in the classroom and exam board specific discussions. We will also be launching a region wide Battle of the Bands for Devon, Torbay and Plymouth with regional heats being in Newton Abbot, Barnstaple and Plympton. Be sure not to miss this important networking opportunity with like-minded peers.
Secondary Network Meetings will take place (in-person) on the following dates:
- Thursday 18 January | Coombeshead Academy, Newton Abbot
- Thursday 25 January | Petroc College, Barnstaple
- Thursday 1 February | Plympton Academy, Plymouth
