Supporting health and social care providers in Devon

Newsflash: Weather Warning

You will be aware that Storm Ciaran is approaching with weather warnings relating to heavy rain and strong winds. You can find updates from Devon County Council here and via social and other media.

These weather events are unpredictable but the Met office currently has yellow and amber weather warnings in place for today through to Friday with the peak expected from the early hours through Thursday morning when very strong winds and attendant floods could disrupt travel, utilities, and cause structural damage endangering life.

A multi-agency and organisational response has been initiated in anticipation of these risks with the full involvement of Adult Social Care.

Where amber weather warnings apply, people should only travel on a risk-assessed basis to support the health, safety and wellbeing of people in our communities.

Any school closures will be listed here and school transport cancellations listed here. Public transport may also be affected and colleagues should check their usual sources before embarking on a journey.

Your local business continuity arrangements should be followed, drawing on relevant advice. With power and telephony outages possible, everyone is encouraged to maintain their mobile phones and laptops at full charge, including backup power supplies where they have them.

Our normal communications arrangements shall be maintained, including out of hours arrangements via our Emergency Duty Service, with our on-call manager contacted accordingly where issues requiring a coordinated response arise. In some situations, including floods and power outages, we may be in touch to establish whether additional support is required.
