Supporting health and social care providers in Devon

Please note the changes to the Autumn/Winter Campaign, as well as a good news story from Ness Care.

We do our best to keep the content and structure of our PEN website up-to-date in these fast-changing times and your suggestions on how to improve the website are always welcome.

Important changes to the Autumn/Winter 2023/24 Campaign

Following the announcement of the new Omicron BA 2.86 variant of COVID-19 it has been agreed to bring the vaccination programme forward, and to accelerate delivery of the programme to vaccinate eligible people sooner than previously announced.

Vaccination teams have now started to contact Care Homes to arrange visits and where possible will co-administer the Flu vaccine.

Vaccination teams will also offer vaccinations to Care Home staff but are unable to provide Flu vaccinations if their employer has an occupational health scheme.

Due to the very short timeframe to deliver vaccinations it may not always be possible to offer flexibility in when vaccinators are able to visit settings, therefore please can we ask that you work with the vaccination teams and accommodate requests wherever possible to visit your setting, it would also be beneficial to provide the vaccinators with up-to-date patient list prior to visits for ease.

The Capacity Tracker now has additional fields added to include COVID-19 and Flu vaccines for both staff and service users, please can we kindly ask, where visits have been complete that the tracker is updated to reflect the numbers vaccinated.

Where staff access their vaccinations out of the setting, such as in the community, where possible could this also be captured within the tracker.

If there are any care home residents that are not registered with a local GP practice/ are a new resident to the setting or missed the care home visit due to being in perhaps being in hospital/feeling unwell or similar, can these residents please be flagged to the Devon Vaccination Support Team d-icb.devonvaccinationsupport@nhs.net  where the team will try and facilitate a revisit.

Campaign Timings

  • From 11 September 2023 – Priority to vaccinate Care Home residents and those who are housebound. The aim is to have this cohort complete by 22 October
  • From 18 September the National Booking System will open on to book appointments online, alternatively you can call 119.
  • Walk-in clinics are also available to access - Walk-in Finder

If there are any queries relating to the vaccine, including hesitancy please email
d-icb.devonvaccinationsupport@nhs.net or by calling 01752 398836

For further information please refer to - Flu and Covid autumn vaccine programmes brought forward

Many thanks in advance for your continued support.

Good news story from Ness Care

Ness Care are a dementia service that work closely with the OPMH teams and social care teams. They have taken over the old maternity building in Exmouth (The Withycombe Centre) and renovated the building to create the latest, state of the art memory hub which helps families living with memory loss across Exeter and East Devon.

They formally opened the space last week and believe it will be a huge asset to the community and great collaboration between the NHS and health providers.
