Invitation for:

Nominations for the Schools Executive Committee

Schools Executive Committee member - 1 x Secondary vacancy (full member)

The Schools Executive Committee (SEC) is the only permanent sub-committee of DSLS CIO and undertakes the role of being the core consultative and advisory group for the CIO and schools. It is the vehicle for educational planning for Devon SLS and will act as the unified voice for schools.

The SEC comprises of 12 elected voting members (6 primary plus 6 secondary) ideally with proportionate representation from L/A and academy schools from each of the 4 areas of Devon and provide an optimum spread of specialist knowledge from each of the key DCC working group/statutory boards e.g. DEF, SFG, SOCA, SEND, Safeguarding and other themes identified as priority areas from time to time. There is also the option for the SEC to co-opt up to four Associate non-voting members from time to time.

A copy of the SEC Terms of Reference can be found here

Nominations are now being sought for 1 x Secondary vacancy (full member).

Whilst membership is limited to a committee of 12, this smaller, cross phase group will work closely with DCC, the DSLS Board and Business Support Centre to ensure that schools are appropriately represented on local authority groups and that there is effective communication and consultation to support effective decision making. The SEC will also be responsible for the agenda content for Leadership Briefings and Area Meetings.

Appointment to the SEC will be supported by way of Service Level Agreement signed by the school leader, the Governing or Trust Board and DSLS CIO. Attendance at meetings will be remunerated at £50 per hour and reimbursed back to the releasing school against invoice.

To put forward your name for these roles please complete the  online form:

The closing date for nominations is noon on Monday 11 September 2023.

In the event that the number of nominations exceeds the number of vacancies available then an election will be necessary. This will take place in September 2023 electronically with all the results announced thereafter.

What is the role of an Education Trustee?

To be a trustee of an organisation is an exciting and fulfilling role, and the most effective Boards are ones which benefit from individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, skill sets and experiences. The core purpose of the Education Trustee is to:

  • ensure that all relevant Phase specific issues are central to the Devon SLS strategic planning through membership and representation on the Schools Executive Committee (SEC).
