Workshops on Catheter Associated Urinary Infection
The Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Prescribing, Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection (APRHAI) is seeking to make recommendations on behavioural interventions to tackle Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) in the context of reducing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and are seeking participants to participate in short hour workshops in order to share insights, facilitate peer learning and consensus building and to agree recommendations for consideration by the main committee.
What does this involve? Taking part in a short one hour workshop with other frontline staff from your sector and from across the UK’s four nations. Together we will discuss, evaluate and optimise around ten pre-prepared good ideas that might help the sector in the future.
Why me? We want people who really know what it is like to try and reduce CAUTIs in the real world of today’s complex work environments. We think you can help us shape recommendations that are fit for the future and are realistic and understandable by you and your peers.
When? These workshops will be held in July within usual working hours and we have included in the availability polls linked below a few options for you to select from for each workshop. If you would like to be involved but cannot find a time that works for you, please contact the APRHAI secretariat at APRHAI@ukhsa.gov.uk

Contingency Planning within Care Plans reminder
Please remember that when completing any care plans we need to ensure we are always considering:
- The individuals emergency back up plan if care and support is disrupted (you might need to help the individual fully explore this)
- Who they would like contacted in an emergency?
- What should happen if they don’t respond to their care visit?
- Who is their support network, don’t only consider one person, think wider than that and who would they like us to contact first if needed?
- Do they have assistive technology/key safe? If not do they require this?

Good news story - Gibraltar Nursing Home Unveils Relaxing Sensory Garden
Gibraltar Nursing Home in Monmouth, part of the Evolve group which includes care homes in Devon, is proud to announce their newly developed sensory garden. It has been specially designed to give its residents a place to relax under the parasols, socialise and get back to nature in a way that engages all the senses.
The garden incorporates a variety of wonderful features crafted from upcycled materials and is a true collaborative effort between the team and family members. From a handmade babbling brook that incorporates pebbles the family members painted together, a beautiful marigold fountain, to a pristinely kept flower and vegetable garden that family members have helped sow the seeds of, the garden offers a multitude of different elements for the community here to enjoy. They also have a range of gardening tools for family members who want to engage in meaningful occupation out in the fresh air.
One of the highlights of the garden is an upcycled chandelier that team leader Bridget saved from a skip, which she then took apart to hang individual strands from the herb greenhouse, creating a mesmerising rainbow effect when the sun bounces off the glass, and a comforting song as they tinkle in the breeze.
Extra care has been taken to ensure the garden is wheelchair friendly and accessible to all, so everyone living here can enjoy every aspect this garden has to offer.
The Evolve group are very proud of this development and we are pleased to share it as a way to inspire our many other innovative providers.
